Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I see course details like CRN or meeting time?

Check the upper right corner of your screen in Hokie Registration to make sure you are logged in. Your name should appear. If it does not, click the login link to sign in with your Hokie PID and password.

Why do I have a hold on my account for registration?

Each semester, students must complete pre-registration checks. The registration hold will be lifted automatically when you complete these checks. Review How to Get to the Hokie Registration Menu for how to complete pre-registration checks.

How do I search for classes based on class level?

In the Search Menu, you can use * as a wildcard to help narrow your search results by class level. For example, if you want to search for 1000 level classes that meet Pathways 3, type “1*” in the search bar and then select Pathways 3 in the Pathways drop-down menu of Search Criteria.

If I have a registration error for one course in my primary cart, will it prevent my whole cart from being processed?

If there is an error for one course, only that course will not be processed. If you have an error for a hold on your account, that will prevent your whole cart from being processed. View Registration Hold information for more details on resolving holds.

I thought co-requisites weren’t being enforced. Why do I see an error for it?

Co-requisites are not currently enforced for undergraduate courses. Registration will not be prevented if you see an error for a co-requisite. Be sure to review the error message for other potential errors

How do I add a zero credit lab class?

Some courses require a lecture and lab separately, make sure you add both CRNs. You can use the Credit Hour drop-down menu in Search Criteria to narrow your search for zero credit sections.

You can also review How to Add a Zero Credit Lab for more information.

Why can't I add both a lecture and a lab class?

If the lecture and lab have the same course number but different CRNs (ex. PHYS 2305), you will not be able to add both to your schedule builder. You will be able to add both to your cart during open registration periods.

Make sure you are selecting "add to cart" rather than "add to plan".

To use the Schedule Builder feature in this instance and during open registration periods, add either the lecture or the lab to your cart first and then follow instructions to create a plan. You will be able to generate schedules around courses already in your cart.

When I try to add a special topics course to my plan, It reverts to a different topic than the one I selected. What can I do?

Schedule Builder looks at course information (course number) rather than section information (topic), so you will not be able to add a special topics course to your plan. Instead, add the course(s) to your cart during open registration periods. You can generate schedules around courses already in your cart during open registration periods.
