Glossary of Terms
In Hokie Registration, it is important to pay close attention to the icons displayed in your cart contents. Use the icons to determine if you are eligible to take specific courses, determine any registration errors, and confirm registration is complete.
Blue Cart
A blue shopping cart icon indicates the course is in one of your carts
Black Check Mark
A black check mark indicates you are fully registered for the course
Green Check Mark
A green check mark indicates you have taken the course in the past
Pencil
A pencil indicates you are editing the registration options for the course
Yellow Triangle
A yellow triangle with an exclamation indicates a warning. Review the text associated with the yellow triangle as this will indicate potential issues like adding a closed course, a time conflict or other course errors
Red Dash
A red dash indicates you are attempting to remove the course
Alternative Cart: used by students to save alternate course options that can be used to select alternatives during the Course Request process.
Primary Cart: the main cart used for Course Request and Add/drop. Courses in your primary cart with a black check mark are courses for which you are fully registered for the term. During Course Request, courses with a blue shopping cart icon are classes you have requested.
Build My Schedule: schedule builder allows students to select courses and generate schedule options based on course availability. Students can push their planned schedule to registration during Course Request and Add/drop periods.
Course Request: phase one of the registration process where students can submit their desired classes for the upcoming term, which may be used to register students for those courses. Course Request is NOT first-come, first-served. Students may edit their carts up until the deadline.
Add/Drop: the period when students can adjust their schedules by adding new courses or dropping ones they no longer want. This process gives students flexibility to finalize their enrollment after seeing their Course Request results. Add/drop is first-come, first-served.
